Fuzail Siddiqui’s 55 years geoscientific career includes i) 15 years of teaching and research mostly in field in Swat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan ii) 25 years of operational work in mineral exploration, mining, processing and marketing in a world class mining/processing industry in Zambia, iii) 15 years as Consultant in Toronto and Project Management in such minerals as gold, copper and gemstones in Gilgit Baltistan, KP, Balochistan, Punjab and FATA. He specializes in progressing mineral prospects from discovery to production. His clients include Canadian and Pakistani companies and the Federal & Provincial Governments of Pakistan.
Fuzail Siddiqui PhD, P.Geo., did his M.Sc. from Punjab University in 1960, among only the second batch of Master’s in Geology to be produced in Pakistan. He received his Ph.D. (Mineralogy) from the University of London King’s College in 1964. He was a lecturer, then Associate Professor, on the faculty of Geology Department, Punjab University from 1960 to 1973. His pioneering contributions to the geology of Pakistan include (i) the first ever reconnaissance geological mapping of the 4500 sq.km. region between Swat and Indus rivers (ii) first discovery of rare Silurian/Devonian fossils in Pakistan from Swabi area, KP (iii) the first ever reporting of the occurrence in Pakistan of the rare Nepheline Syenite (1965) and even rarer Carbonatite (1967) rocks of economic importance, near Koga village in Buner, south of Swat. iv) delineation of a new (Shagari Bala) copper deposit at Skardu, Gilgit Baltistan.
He is perhaps the senior most active Mining Geologist/Process Mineralogist/Project Director of Pakistan with 55 years of geoscientific experience, including 25 years of experience in operating mines/metallurgical plants in Zambia. In Zambia, from the initial appointment as Process Mineralogist in 1973 he advanced to progressively more important positions, reaching the highest geological position in the billion dollar Zambian copper industry. His work in Zambia includes 13 years of laboratory bench work and management. By innovative application of a combination of chemistry and mineralogy, he resolved several major production shutdown problems in metallurgy. He managed a capital project to establish computer aided geological/mine modeling for four major copper/cobalt mines.
In 1998 he moved to Canada. There, his gold exploration proposal for the international web-based ‘Challenge’, launched by Goldcorp of Toronto, Canada in 2000, was judged worthy of an award of US$10000. He also received the Rouge River Keeper’s award for excellence in environmental stewardship in Ontario, Canada. He has “Qualified Person” status as a Professional Geoscientist registered in Ontario, Canada.
From February 2006 to December 2010 Fuzail Siddiqui worked for Shahzad International, Islamabad. There he helped create a new mining company – Global Mining Company (Private) Ltd. – and served as its Chief Operating Officer. He has directed field exploration on several mineral properties in different stages of development in Pakistan. Since 2010 he operates his own independent geoscientific consultancy. His diverse clientele include the Governments of the Punjab, FATA and now Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, foreign and local mining companies operating in Pakistan and other private/public mineral related businesses. He is the Resource Person-Principal Author who compiled the recently launched KP Mineral Policy 2014.
